Delta CEO Accepts Citizen Diplomat Award at Consular Ball

Delta Air Lines Inc. CEO Gerald Grinstein accepted the Georgia Consular International Visitors Citizen Diplomat Award at the Georgia Council for International Visitors’ annual Consular Ball on April 14. Mr. Grinstein dedicated the award to Delta’s 46,000 employees during the event, which was the first for which the company had been a presenting sponsor.

“To the Delta people, I want to thank you for the honor Delta receives tonight,” Mr. Grinstein said. “We are 46,000 strong and they have done a remarkable job. We are fortunate things broke our way, but [the employees] made it happen,” he said.

The event was attended by some 450 guests to honor Atlanta’s Consular Corps representing 57 governments with consular offices here.

Former Amb. Andrew Young and Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., offered remarks congratulating Mr. Grinstein for leading the company out of its difficult economic situation.

Delta’s sponsorship of the Consular Ball helped to highlight the airline’s ongoing international expansion, according to Alfreda Turner, manager of commercial sales development international.

Delta has opened 70 new international routes since October 2005.
