Stuttgart, Germany, is partnering with the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern U.S. to host the chamber’s 13th annual gala on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Intercontinental Hotel Buckhead.
The chamber announced on Sept. 24 that the partnership would strengthen the already important business ties between Atlanta and Stuttgart while celebrating its 30th anniversary.
“When the GACC Atlanta office opened in 1978, few people could have predicted the profound of an impact German investment would have on this region’s economic transformation,” Kristian Wolf, the chamber’s CEO and president, said in a statement.
“Today, more than 50 percent of all German investment in the United States takes place in our region.”

Wolfgang Schuster, Stuttgart’s mayor, is to be the honored guest at the black-tie event and is to lead a delegation including representatives from the economic development agency for Baden-Württemberg, the German federal state in which Stuttgart is located.
Also accompanying the mayor are to be representatives from the Stuttgart Airport; Messe Stuttgart GmbH, the trade fair organizer and Stuttgart Marketing, the city’s marketing arm, which also are supporting the gala.
According to the chamber, Stuttgart and the greater area of Baden-Würtemberg are Germany’s strongest economic area with the lowest unemployment rate and highest consumer spending per capita in the country.
Some 3,000 Stuttgart-based companies have operations in the U.S. including Porsche Cars North America, which has its headquarters in Atlanta.
Messe Stuttgart moved from New York to Atlanta earlier this year.
Delta Air Lines Inc. has a direct flight from Stuttgart to Atlanta.
