In keeping with that mission, the chamber’s trade conference will feature leaders from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, as well as the International USA chamber.

Consuls and international trade experts will also be on hand.

Hartsfield to Add More Security Lanes

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will spend $25 million to build 10 new security checkpoint lanes in an effort to reduce wait times at the airport.

Six currently operating lanes will be removed as part of the project, bringing the net total of security lanes from 28 to 32.

Construction is scheduled for completion before the summer travel season and the lanes should be operational by mid-summer.

Hartsfield General Manager Benjamin DeCosta said the airport will evaluate the success of the new configuration before deciding whether or not to implement a registered traveler program.

The pilot program in place at many airports across the country allows frequent travelers who pass a Transportation Security Administration background check to pay for a card that gives them clearance through a special gate, reducing their time in line.

“The airport has received proposals for the [registered traveler] program, but will defer its decision on a pilot program until we have experience with the new security checkpoint configuration,” Mr. DeCosta said in a press release.

About 86 million travelers per year pass through the airport.
